Four surgeons originally formed the group practice of Southwestern Surgery Associates. in October of 1968. The surgeons included Duncan W. Campbell, M.D., Mark M. Kartchner, M.D., Vernor F. Lovett, M.D., and Donald D. Ewing, M.D. While three of the original four are no longer in active practice, Dr. Mark Kartchner continues as surgeon emeritus. Over the past 41 years Southwestern Surgery has employed 39 high quality board certified surgeons. All surgeons are members of the American College of Surgeons with most completing Fellowship (FACS).
The current members now known as Arizona Community Surgeons dba Southwestern Surgery Associates have broadened the needs of Tucson with expertise in ALL aspects of major general surgery such as Hernia, Gallbladder and Appendix surgeries. The group also sub-specializes in Colon, Rectal, Thoracic, Endocrine, Cancer Surgery and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeries. All of our surgeons are board certified and many serve academic appointments at the University of Arizona, College of Medicine.
